UnMask is a people-search and reverse lookup service that allows anyone to find personal information using a name, phone number, or address. Your profile on UnMask may reveal your home address, phone numbers, relatives, and more to complete strangers. Here's how to opt out and remove your data.
What Is UnMask?
UnMask (unmask.com) is an online people-search platform that provides background checks, reverse phone lookups, and people searches. It compiles data from public records and commercial sources to create detailed personal profiles.
A typical UnMask profile may include:
- Full name and known aliases or maiden names
- Current and previous addresses with dates of residence
- Phone numbers including mobile, landline, and VoIP
- Email addresses
- Age and date of birth
- Known relatives and associates
- Social media profiles
- Property ownership records
UnMask sources its data from public records including voter registrations, property filings, court records, phone directories, and commercial data aggregators.
How to Opt Out of UnMask
Follow these steps to remove your information from UnMask:
Step 1: Find Your Profile
- Visit unmask.com
- Search for yourself using your name, phone number, or address
- Locate your profile and note the URL
Step 2: Go to the Opt-Out Page
- Visit unmask.com/opt-out/ directly
- Enter your first name, last name, and city/state
- Click Search to find your record
- Locate your profile in the results and click Delete Record
- Enter your name and email address, complete the CAPTCHA, and click Submit
Step 3: Verify via Email
- Check your inbox (and spam folder) for a confirmation email from UnMask
- Click the verification link to confirm your opt-out request
- Your removal request won't be processed until you complete this step
Step 4: Confirm Removal
- Wait 24 to 72 hours after verification
- Search for yourself again on UnMask to confirm your profile has been removed
- If your profile is still visible, submit another request or escalate via email
Processing Time
UnMask typically processes removal requests within 5 to 7 days, though some requests may take up to 30 days. Note that removal from UnMask does not remove your data from Google search results — cached versions of your profile may still appear for several weeks until search engines refresh their indexes.
Alternative Opt-Out Method: Email Request
If the website opt-out form doesn't work or isn't available, send a direct email:
- Email their support or privacy contact (check the website's privacy policy or contact page for the address)
- Include: Your full name, the URL(s) of your profile(s), and a clear statement requesting data removal
- Reference applicable privacy laws such as the CCPA or your state's data privacy act
- Request confirmation once removal is complete
Warning: Multiple Profiles May Exist
If you've lived at multiple addresses or had different phone numbers, UnMask may have created separate profiles for each. Search using all your known names, addresses, and phone numbers to find and remove every profile associated with you.
Dealing With Cached Search Results
Even after UnMask removes your profile, it may still appear in Google search results for a period. To speed up removal from search engines:
- Use Google's URL removal tool to request de-indexing of the specific page
- Submit a request to Google's "Results About You" feature which allows you to request removal of search results containing personal contact information
- Check other search engines like Bing and Yahoo, which have their own content removal processes
Don't Stop at UnMask
UnMask is part of a larger ecosystem of people-search sites that share and repackage the same data. Removing your information from one site while leaving it on dozens of others provides limited protection.
PrivacyOn removes your data from 100+ data brokers and people-search sites simultaneously, including sites like UnMask and their affiliated platforms. With continuous monitoring and automatic re-removal, PrivacyOn keeps your personal information private across the entire data broker ecosystem — not just one site at a time.
