How to Opt Out of StateRecords

StateRecords.org is a public records aggregator that compiles criminal records, court cases, property records, and other personal information from government databases across all 50 states. If your name appears on StateRecords, here's how to remove it.

What Is StateRecords?

StateRecords.org positions itself as a public records portal, providing access to government records that are technically available to the public. However, by making these records easily searchable online, the site dramatically increases the visibility of information that would otherwise require visiting individual government offices or websites.

StateRecords may display the following about you:

  • Criminal records: Arrests, charges, convictions, mugshots, and sex offender registry data
  • Court records: Civil lawsuits, divorce filings, bankruptcy cases, and judgments
  • Property records: Real estate ownership, property values, tax assessments, and transaction history
  • Vital records: Birth records, death records, and marriage licenses
  • Inmate records: Current and past incarceration information
  • Contact information: Names, addresses, and phone numbers associated with the above records

The site pulls data from county, state, and federal government databases, court systems, departments of corrections, and public property record offices.

Understanding the Limitations

Important: Removing From StateRecords Doesn't Erase Public Records

StateRecords aggregates information from government sources. Removing your listing from their website does not remove the underlying government records. Criminal records, court cases, and property filings remain in official government databases regardless of what you do on StateRecords.org.

For permanent removal of certain records, you may need to pursue legal avenues:

  • Criminal record expungement: Petition the court that handled your case to seal or expunge eligible records
  • Court record sealing: Request that specific civil or family court records be sealed from public access
  • Property record privacy: In some states, you can register your property through an LLC or trust to reduce personal name visibility in records

Removing StateRecords From Google Search Results

Even after StateRecords removes your profile, their pages may persist in search engine results. To address this:

  • Use Google's URL Removal Tool: Request that Google de-index the specific StateRecords URL that displayed your information
  • Submit a "Results About You" request: Google's tool for removing personal contact information from search results
  • Check Bing Webmaster Tools: Submit similar removal requests for Bing search results
  • Be patient: Search engine caches typically clear within a few weeks, even without manual removal requests

Other Public Records Sites to Check

If your records appear on StateRecords, they almost certainly appear on similar sites. Be sure to also check and opt out of:

  • Judyrecords — a free court records search engine
  • CourtCaseFinder — another court records aggregator
  • Arrest.org — focuses on arrest records and mugshots
  • BackgroundCheck.org — provides criminal background information
  • PublicRecordsNow — aggregates various types of public records
